RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER OFFSHORE - MOTORCRUISING

The RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate is a certificate of competency for skippering commercial powerboats up to 200 tonnes within 150 miles of a safe haven overseas. It consists of comprehensive package of  a 6 day theory and intensive 4 day practical afloat training (plus a 1 day practical exam) and includes all STCW 95 training.

In order to be admitted onto the course, you must provide evidence of extensive motorcruising experience.  See entry requirement for more details.

Qualification:

The successful candidate will receive:

  • RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased Certificate

  • STCW 95 Competence in Fire-Fighting and Fire Prevention Certificate

  • STCW 95 Competence in Personal Survival Techniques Certificate

  • STCW 95 Competence in Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities Certificate

  • STCW 95 Competence in Elementary First Aid

  • Restricted Radio Telephone Operator's Certificate

  • RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore/Power Endorsement Certificate of Competency. Issued to successful candidates by the RYA of Southampton, UK.
Duration and Start Dates:
4 week course - 18 Feb 2008, 3 June 2008, 15 Sept 2008, 3 Nov 2008.
Class Size:
Maximum of 5 per course.
Entry Requirement:
Candidates must have logged 50 days at sea, 2500 nautical miles, 5 days as skipper on a powerboat while cruising at sea. This mileage must be logged on genuine cruises or passages and not only short day trips. At least 2000 miles must have been completed on coastal voyages and not ocean crossings. The mileage must include at least 5 varied passages with rhumb lines of over 60 miles, 2 of which the candidate must have undertaken as skipper and 2 of which must have been undertaken at night.  Half of the qualifying sea time must have been conducted in tidal waters.

Accreditation:

This course is accredited with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) of Southampton, UK who will issue the Certificate of Competency.
Please note that as the duration of the motorcruising practical is 4 days, a RYA Course Completion Certificate cannot be issued.  Only courses with a practical component of 5 or more days duration can be issued such a certificate.
