RYA/MCA YACHTMASTER OFFSHORE - SAIL

The RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate is a certificate of competency for skippering commercial yachts up to 200 tonnes within 150 miles of a safe haven overseas. It consists of comprehensive package of  a 6 day theory and intensive 5 day practical afloat training and includes all STCW 95 training.  The 6 week package also includes an additional 5 days of practical seatime plus a 5 day radar course.

Qualification:

The successful candidate will receive:

  • RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased Certificate

  • STCW 95 Competence in Fire-Fighting and Fire Prevention Certificate

  • STCW 95 Competence in Personal Survival Techniques Certificate

  • STCW 95 Competence in Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities Certificate

  • STCW 95 Competence in Elementary First Aid

  • Restricted Radio Telephone Operator's Certificate

  • Restricted Radar Observer's Certificate (for the 6 week course only)

  • RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competency. Issued to successful candidates by the RYA of Southhampton, UK.

Duration and Start Dates:
6 week course - 11 Feb 2008, 3 June 2008, 15 Sept 2008, 3 Nov 2008.
4 week course - 18 Feb 2008, 3 June 2008, 15 Sept 2008, 3 Nov 2008.
Class Size:
Maximum of 5 afloat, 15 in the classroom
Entry Requirement:
Candidates must have logged 50 days at sea, 2500 nautical miles, 5 days as skipper on a yacht while cruising at sea. This mileage must be logged on genuine cruises or passages and not only short day trips. At least 2000 miles must have been completed on coastal voyages and not ocean crossings. The mileage must include at least 5 varied passages with rhumb lines of over 60 miles, 2 of which the candidate must have undertaken as skipper and 2 of which must have been undertaken at night.  Half of the qualifying sea time must have been conducted in tidal waters.
Fees:
NZ$5,800.00 for the 6 week course.  (International Student fees: $7,164.00)
NZ$4,600.00 for the 4 week course.  (International Student fees: $4,994.00)

This course is accredited with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) of Southampton, UK who will issue the Certificate of Competency.
