Transition process for Upgrading to the
‘LICENCE CONTROLLER QUALIFICATION’

In order to qualify for the new ‘Licence Controller Qualification’ you will need to complete all of the following:

  • Sit and successfully pass a one hour transition test, covering aspects of Host Responsibility and the Sale of Liquor Act 1989 and its amendments.
  • Supply a photocopy of your current General Managers Certificate (remember to allow sufficient time before expiry date).
  • Supply written evidence of your current employment in a role requiring control of a licensed premises, as well as details of  the legal compliance of your workplace (see appropriate forms attached).
  • Pay an administration fee to the Hospitality Standards Institute.
Examination information:

On application to the MTI you will receive a pack of sample test papers.

You will need to study these to prepare yourself for your transition test. When you feel ready to take the test, please phone the Mahurangi Technical Institute to arrange a suitable time and date. The one hour examination will be supervised by MTI staff.

The required pass mark is 80 marks, but you will be re-assessed in the questions that you get wrong, or have missed. A complete re-sit will be required if a mark of less than 80 is gained. A re-sit fee of $55.00 will apply

Accreditation:
Mahurangi Technical Institute  has been approved by the Hospitality Standards Institute (HSI) to conduct this transition process.
