RYA/CBES DAY SKIPPER PRACTICAL - SAIL

The Day Skipper practical course is conducted onboard a cruising yacht to teach pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boathandling up to a standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day in tidal waters.  Training takes place on our 40 fot training yacht in the Hauraki Gulf.  The award of the Day Skipper certificate is based on your skills assessed throughout the week and made by the instructor on board.

In order to be admitted onto the course, you must provide evidence of some sailing experience.  See entry requirement for more details.

  • RYA/CBES Day Skipper Certificate

Duration and Start Dates:
Course duration is 5 days.

Class Size:
Class sizes are kept at a level to maintain a 5:1 student/instructor ratio.
Entry Requirement:
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.  Candidates must have logged 5 days at sea, 100 nm and 4 night hours on a sailing yacht.  Holding a Boatmaster Certificate or RYA Day Skipper shorebased certificate would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

Accreditation:

This course is accredited with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) of Southampton, UK who will issue the Certificate of Competency.
