Approved by Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) the STCW Advanced Fire Fighting course will provide candidates with the knowledge and practical ability required under Regulation V1/3, section A-V1/3 of the STCW95 Convention. This course covers fire fighting procedures at sea and in port with particular emphasis on organisation, tactics and command.
You will learn: To control fire fighting operations onboard ships; orgainse and train fire fighting parties; inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment; investigate and complie reports on incidents involving fire. The course contains practical fire fightin elements using different types of extinguishers, hoses and breathing apparatus. Students will gain experience in fighting fires in an enclosed space with heat and smoke and of casualty evacuation in a series of exercises designed to build confidence and teamwork. Students will also learn how to co-ordinate and liaise with shore based fire fighters.

Candidates must hold a current STCW Basic Fire Fighting certificate (issued not more than five years ago)

- While facial hair is not encouraged beards may require trimming to ensure breathing apparatus facial mask seal is maintained
Duration: This course runs for five full days, Monday to Friday. Class times are 9.00 am to 3.00 pm. Any medical or dental appointments must be made outside of training hours at all times except in cases of emergency. Please ensure you book outgoing flights from 7.00 pm onwards to ensure full attendance in class and adequate time to get to the airport.
