RYA Day Skipper Practical - Sail

 

The RYA Dayskipper practical is to train a yachtsperson to skipper a small yacht in familiar water by day. Course includes boat handling, both under sail and power, navigational, and night and day navigational exercises. Training takes place on our 40 foot training yacht in the Hauraki Gulf. The award of the Day Skipper certificate is based on your skills assessed throughout the week and made by the instructor on board.

The successful candidate will receive:

RYA/CBES Day Skipper Certificate

 

 

Duration and Start Dates:

Course duration is five days.

Class Size:

Class sizes are kept at a level to maintain a 5:1 student/instructor ratio.

 

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and over. Candidates must have logged five days at sea, 100 nm and four night hours on a sailing yacht. Holding a Boatmaster Certificate or RYA Day Skipper Shorebased certificate would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

Accreditation:

This course is accredited with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) of Southampton, UK who will issue the Certificate of Competency, and by Coastguard Boating Education.
