RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal - Motor

 

This Certificate of Competency allows the holder to skipper yachts up to 24m in length and to be Chief Mate on vessels of up to 500 tonnes within 60 miles of a safe haven overseas. It consists of a seven day classroom session, an intensive four day practical period aboard a motorboat (plus a one day practical exam), together with the STCW Basic Training course.

 

Qualification:

The successful candidate will receive:

  • RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Shorebased Certificate
  • STCW Competence in Fire-fighting and Fire Prevention Certificate
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques Certificate
  • STCW Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities Certificate
  • STCW Competence in Elementary First Aid
  • MNZ Certificate of STCW Basic Training
  • Maritime Restricted (Radio) Operator's Certificate
  • RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper/Power Endorsement Certificate of Competency. Issued to successful candidates by the RYA of Southampton, UK.

Maximum course numbers = 10

 

Entry Requirement:

Qualifying seatime requirements to undertake this certificate course are 24 days seatime and 500 miles in a yacht.

To gain the RYA Certificate candidates must have:

  • 800 miles logges within 10 years prior to examination
  • 30 days living on board
  • 2 days as a skipper
  • 12 night hours
  • Be aged 18 years or over

For holders of the Coastal Skipper Practical Course Completion Certificate, the seatime requirement is reduced to:

  • 400 miles
  • 20 days living on board
  • 12 night hours
  • 2 days as skipper
  • Be aged 18 years or over

Student Benefits:

Student loans and allowances are not available for this package.

 

Accreditation:

This course is accredited with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) of Southampton, UK who will issue the Certificate of Competency.

Please note that as the duration of the motorcruising practical is four days, a RYA Course Completion Certificate cannot be issued. Only courses with a practical component of five or more days duration can be issued such a certificate.
