The Health & Safety in Employment Act requires every company to have at least one First Aid trained staff member for every 25 employees (for every shift). Once gained a First Aid Certificate must be refreshed every two years.

Mahurangi Technical Institute offer the two day First Aid Certificate and a one day refresher course.

This qualification has been developed specifically for those who are working in, or wish to work in, the companion animal industries. It is New Zealand's first species based pet industry qualification. The Certificate in Companion Animal Services is delivered by distance learning. On successful completion candidates will be awarded the Certificate in Companion Animal Services and the Mahurangi Technical Institute 'Companion Animal Industry Training Passport' - a comprehensive record of learning to show to potential employers - and 'Graduate Badges' to identify you to the pet buying public as being knowledgeable, competent and qualified.

Successful completion of this programme will provide you with practical skills and applicable species based understanding/knowledge needed to service the companion animal industry.

This is an employment entry course and is accepted as entry into more advanced tertiary automotive courses. While students learn basic workshop skills and safety, engine repairs and understanding of petrol/diesel engine operation, considerable emphasis is also placed on employment skills.

Career opportunities include any branch of the automotive trade. Graduates can move onto further automotive education or enter straight into the workforce.
