RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory

The Ocean Theory course covers the art of celestial navigation, required for candidates wishing to work towards the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate of Competency. Elements covered include, setting up sextant, taking and reducing sights. Following the course candidates are required to complete a 600nm ocean passage and submit their sights and workings to the for assessment during an oral exam.

Duration: 7 days. Course hours: 9.00 am – 4.30 pm.Class Size: Maximum course numbers = 8 Entry Requirement: Candidates should ideally have a sound knowledge of coastal and offshore navigation and sailing.

Fees: Domestic students (NZ and Australian citizens): NZ$1,777 including GST*PLEASE NOTE: All listed qualifications and fees will be subject to change in 2016 based on the requirement to use new qualifications. Student Benefits: Student loans and allowances are not available for this package. Accreditation: This course is accredited with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) of Southampton, UK.
